Candy Yum Yum & Polkadots 3/12/11

Hello everyone, its been a couple of weeks since my last post - I've been busy with the Corporate Games and studying (and shopping :S). Good news is that the games are over - phew, can't believe I made it.  While I tried to minimize my "game time", I still managed to take an elbow to the stomach, got a couple of scratches and had a skinny American girl lift me off the ground while I held onto the ball with dear life. I also fell into a bit of a coma for the rest of that weekend because it really took it out of me. Must. Improve. Fitness.

I've also watched Breaking Dawn: Part 1 a couple of times *embarassed face*, I really just found it soooo entertaining! It was hilarious and I couldn't stop laughing - I think its my favourite of the Twilight movies! I also saw Drive at the boyfriend's insistence and I have to say it was an excellent choice. The tension, the soundtrack, Ryan Gosling still lookin' hot hot hot and the ambiguous non-hollywood ending... ah. It was excellent.

And today I have to study again.

Pretty in Pink! 12/11/11

Another lovely Melbourne weekend which completely puts me off studying! Its at times like these when I really regret picking up those books again. But such is life - even after you work full time, you have to continue to study to keep up with the knowledge. I guess I better get used to it, because chances are - I will be studying course after course for the rest of my working life... (that is, unless I decide to join Broadway...)

My awesome friend Z, who I met while volunteering at the local community legal service centre and who I now work with, left our organisation yesterday. He would almost be the guy version of me. Or I tell people that he is like the younger brother I never had. I think I was the saddest out of everyone because he is my best friend at work and has quickly become one of my closest friends in my circle. He will travel for a couple of months and then then he will move to Canberra to start a grad position. Oh, I will miss him so. I think he will miss me too. hehe.

I really love this skirt - its so pretty and so pink! But I also realised that I don't have much in my wardobe that matches it! I don't wear a lot of white and certainly don't have too many pink tops (surprisingly, considering how girly I am!). While rummaging through my wardrobe and multiple roller racks - I realised this W&D cardi is perfect for it! It even has a matching floral print! I think in the Winter, I will button up the cardigan fully and tuck it into the skirt, along with some cute knee - highs! (I don't like the Summer, hence I am already looking forward to the next Winter!)

Singapore Fling! 6/11/11

I love this Wheels & Dollbaby dress - not only is it comfortable to wear, but the name is adorable! I don't have any Singapore flings to speak of, but the name simply reminds me of warm, sunny days and walking by the Arno river with a big floppy hat and a gelato in hand. Ah... My next holiday is not until March 2012 when we will be going to Bangkok for my bestie's hens' week! Yay to that!

This photo was taken at the Victoria Barracks. I had just picked up the bf from work yesterday and was driving down St Kilda road when I told him to stop somewhere for a picture. And this garden looked very pretty. I usually avoid any gardens like the plague when its Spring time. For those who are hay fever sufferers, you know what I mean. Telfast every day for at least a month and a half. Ick.

Red lippy wtih Red cherries 29/10/11

On the advice of both my best friend and my dear friend Bug from Bug's Beauty Blog, I have finally decided to get over my shyness and show my face properly on my blog! Goodbye to anonymity! I'm definitely not a shy person IRL, but I had some reservations about having my face all over the internet. When I explained to my friends about my reservations, they simply responded "Who are you kidding? Everyone recognises you anyway!" haha. So here I am... pasty face and all.

Instead of participating in the races, this year we've decided to have high tea at The Windsor! Suits us ladies a whole lot more since we don't drink and don't bet on horses. High tea was delicious - unfortunately my hungry tummy prevailed and I forgot to take photos of the food that I ate.

23/10/11 Dress me Up!

Helloooo... I spent the last couple of days in Sydney with my cousin to celebrate my belated birthday (back in August) and to dine at Tetsuya. We also shop shop shopped till we literally dropped and its safe to say that I won't be shopping for a little while - eeek.

Today I'm wearing some of my Sydney purchases - I'm glad I've returned to lovely weather in Melbourne as I heard it was crappy the last few days! I have had my eyes on this skirt the moment I saw the Spring/Summer 2011 lookbook and have been waiting patiently for it to come out. Its finally mine! Yay! I really wanted the Dita cardigan in red but they've unfortunately sold out! I don't mind the black though - it goes with everything!

Pinks and Purples with some Sparkle 16/10/11

Alannah Hill "Fibbing all Day" cardigan and "Bring me flowers" skirt, Miu Miu shoes
I am in love with this skirt! And the warm weather is totally perfect for these colours! It also comes in a dress version, but I prefer to mix and match.  The cardigan is an old favourite - I have about 4 cardigans that are  in a similar style (but in different colours and different details on each). Yes, I have too many cardigans. And skirts. eeeek.

These Miu Mius may look like plain satin slippers from the front, but hide some fabulous sparkles at the heel!
In other news, my basketball training is coming along. However, since my body is not used to this type of fitness, I seem to be injuring myself left right and centre! Must stretch more. And warm up and warm down. *sigh*

Black and Blue 9/10/11

Forever New leather jacket, Oxford silk top, Sportsgirl leggings, Alexander McQueen scarf, Salvatore Ferragamo shoes, Miu Miu Bag

These lovely classic Ferragamos were purchased in the flagship store in Florence, Italy. I wanted to buy so many more pairs of Ferragamos but I still had so many things on my list, I had to hold back!
I love how the sun's rays poke through the bushes in this picture. The AMcQ scarf was a birthday gift from my lovely friend Karina, who has excellent taste! Karina and her boyfriend met up with us in Paris and we double dated our way through the Paris leg of our trip. Whoever says double dating is cheesy (especially in Paris) is too cynical! It was super super fun and we ate and laughed our way through the streets of Pareeee!

Outfit 8/10/11

So I thought it would be pretty funny to sign up for "Mixed-Basketball" at the Corporate Games since a few of the guys at work thought it would be pretty funny as well. I was sure it wasn't going to happen as I was the ONLY girl in the team. But we've subsequently found enough players now and there's no pulling out. Ever since I've been telling friends, family and even my trainer at Vibromania that I am participating in basketball, every single person has found it hilarious. I happen to be the SHORTEST in my team and er, struggle to even run for a full minute. Sigh. And so the training begins... the bf and I ran to the Subway down the road today to start my training. And then we each had a footlong Sub. Yum!

On an unrelated topic, Crazy, Stupid, Love, was simply divine. To be honest, I have never really found Ryan Gosling attractive - not even in The Notebook. The bf and I actually debated over Ryan Gosling's hotness and while he found him rather attractive, I thought it was more about the personality in The Notebook. But then you see him in Crazy, Stupid, Love, and um, he is kind of AMAAAAAZING. I recommend watching the movie, if not just to see him (and his hot bod). As a bonus, the movie really made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside so it will definitely be a DVD I will purchase to watch over and over again (like the rest of my collection!).

Spring spring spring! 24/09/11

The weather here in Melbourne has been soooo lovely during the day! I say during the day because at night, you still need to have a coat handy as it is frrrreeeezing! Perfect weather for me, actually - it means I can wear both my Spring outfits and Winter outfits in the one day! Oh and I can sleep extremely well because I'm personally not a fan of hot nights.

Review Molly Jacket, Alannah Hill "Maybe Someday" frock, Miu Miu bag, Miu Miu glitter peeptoes
I bought the AH frock at one of the 20% off sales and was surprised that the high neckline actually suited me! I think its a good purchase as it will likely be getting A LOT of wears this Spring and Summer (especially on casual Fridays at work!). I have many Review jackets already but love this Molly one because its cropped for us shorties and is very "lady who lunches". hehe.

Recent Eats - Chin Chin & Il Solito Posto

Il Solito Posto
113 Collins St
Melbourne VIC 3000
(03) 9654 4466

Back to basics, simple Italian menu, but with the advantage of the fresh and yummy Aussie seafood. Il Solito Posto feels familiar and its defeinitely a cosy place for a date or to catch up with a girlfriend. Always busy though, so a booking is the best way to get in. Otherwise, the bf and I popped in at around 9 last night and there was a table or two for us. I'm a real creature of habit and every Italian place I go, I must try the seafood lingune. I judge restaurants by their seafood linguine and I was not disappointed with the simple flavours of Il Solito Posto.

Chin Chin
 125 Flinders Lane, Melbourne - (03) 8663 2000

I've heard lots of mixed reviews about Chin Chin but was always curious to find out what it was like for myself. I'm really not a fan of "no-bookings" restaurants but this can't be helped when a lot great restaurants these days no longer take bookings. meh. I was pleasantly surprised with all the different flavours I experienced in each dish. Feels like every dish has an element of sweet, salty, sour and chilli. I would definitely come back to Chin Chin again to experience more of its curious dishes, but it is a bit on the pricey side for Thai food, I must admit. My favourite dish would have to be the spanner crab and chicken salad - it is the perfect companion for all the other dishes and extremely appetizing!

Outfit 100911

Hello hello, our internet has been down all week, so I'm taking advantage of this small window of connectivity to post some pictures of my outfit yesterday! This week has pretty much consisted of work, vibro and a liiiiiiittttle bit of shopping (Melb Central VIP night on Wednesday!). I also tripped on my ankle on some tiny cobblestones and that also led to a temporary bung knee over Thursday and Friday. Argh. All in all, I am well now and have spent the entire weekend eating, sleeping and re-watching (for the 100th time )old episodes of Sex and the City. ohhhhh yeah.

Review "Anna" top, vintage blouse, Zara leather skirt, Columbine stockings
Miu Miu patent studded brogues
Miu Miu patent bag

This vintage blouse is another purchase from an op shop in Covent Garden in London. I love the floral print and especially love the detailing on the collar! It was only 18 pounds and boy have I got my money's worh in compliments for it! (I also think its because for once, I'm not wearing Alannah Hill!)

The Review top was purchased (amongst other things!) at the Melbourne Central VIP night when the promotion was "Spend $250, get $100 off". I thought that was a pretty sweet deal. Plus, my cousin is a VIP there so we always get excellent service whenever we pop in. Alannah Hill was also having 20% off so I made the most of that (pics of me wearing those purchases to come!) ! The Zara skirt was purchased in London in a surbuban shopping centre in Bromley South and was heavily discounted (yay for sales!).

Spring outfit 040911

And the birthday celebrations continue even though my birthday was two weeks ago! Still lots and lots of food and lots of pampering, "detoxing", manicures and pedicures. Loooooooovelllyyyyy.

Today, the bf and I popped into our favourite breakfast cafe for some brunch with my little old dog, Ding Dong. The weather started off being quite lovely, so all my Spring gear is slowly coming out to play!

Food I ate in Italy...

Food in Florence & Rome was a bit of hit and miss. You really need to know which places to go to in order to get a very satisfying meal. Luckily, I relied on the good word of the travellers on Tripadvisor.com and also a couple of recommendations from our Hotel in Florence. We stayed at Hotel Globus in Florence and the location and service was FANTASTIC! Our room was a bit dark, but when you looked outside the window, you saw the top of the San Lorenzo church, which was quite beautiful. Just down the street is the San Lorenzo market, famous for its leather. The buffet breakfast had such a personal touch to it that it was something we always woke up for and never skipped. I highly recommend it and Lucas had some great restaurant recommendations!

In Rome, we stayed at the Hotel Mecenate Palace, about 4 or 5 blocks from Roma Termini station in the direction of the Colosseum. For a four star hotel, we got an extremely good deal on Expedia.com for just over $150 per night for a double room! While not as conveniently located as some other  hotels might be, the hotel is quite beautiful and the rooms are palace themed. It is also next to a really yummy gelato shop and the rooftop has some amazing views. While the stay was very pleasant, it lacked the personal touches of Hotel Globus and the friendliness and warmth of the staff. I would stay here again just because it's such a fantastic deal for a four star hotel - as if we'd get a double room for $150 in Melbourne! And the buffet breakfast here is was pretty awesome too - my only complaint was there wasn't a good selection of teas to choose from! hehe

The pizza is definitely no Domino's - they like to use simple and fresh ingredients and each pizza won't usually consist of more than 4 ingredients. The seafood is usually frozen, but you can get really fresh mussels. Mozzarella in anything is my favourite, especially buffalo mozarella. Yum! The cherry and Roma tomatoes are also super fresh and super sweet, you can't miss those in a salad!
