Outfit of the Day 16/5/11, Izikaya Chuji

, I've been having some busy weeks at work recently, which means I will be in the high risk zone when it comes to shopping! It seems that the more I need to use my brains at work, the less I want to use them afterwards! And that means... lots of brainless action films with hot buff dudes (think Thor), lots of browsing (at the shops and online), heaps of eating, and definitely lots of Glee time and general singing in the car/shower/at work time! (A tad sad I know)

Alannah Hill cardigan (sample)
Forever New skirt
Bardot floral opaques
Prada pumps

I picked up this adorable Alannah Hill sample at the ClearIt outlet and fell in love with the sequinned bows all over the cardi! While I always love her collections, I always really love the one-of-a-kind samples that can occasionally be picked up if you're lucky!

Tonight I caught up with my awesome friend S and we had dinner at Izikaya Chuji, a pokey little Japanese place near the corner of Russell and Lonsdale street.

We had:

Takoyaki balls $10

Okonomiyaki $7

Gyoza $10

Nasu Hasamiage $11

Honetuki Karubi $12

Ah... it was a bit difficult to pick my favourite of the dishes. I really enjoyed the takoyaki (octopus) balls, the okonomiyaki (seafood pancake) and the nasu hasamiage... which is eggplant stuffed with minced beef and crispy fried bits on the outside! Yum! S was definitely a fan of the ribs and the okonomiyaki too!

Outfit of the Day 8/5/11

 Happy Mama's Day!

As my mum personally prefers cold hard cash as opposed to presents or a lovely lunch/dinner, today was pretty much just like any other Sunday! The bf and I went off to do some study and then it was home time to watch some Masterchef!

I would like to mention that all these "further studies" (after already completing a double degree 2 years ago!) must be age-reversing or something. I was at the State Library and a high school kid was checking me out!!! I COULD NOT believe it! Honey, I am almost a DECADE older than you!

Gorman woollen duffle coat
Alannah Hill "Move me to France!" top
H&M pleated skirt
Voodoo opaques
Friends of Coutore bow clip
Miu Miu leopard print loafers

The Gorman coat is a recent purchase. I ABSOLUTELY Adore it! The buttons, the shearling hood and the pom-poms. I look like an eskimo with the hood on, but I don't care! The lovely Gorman assistant also agreed that I look like an eskimo, "but a cute one!", she says. Sold! (I am acutely aware that I am on a shopping ban, but prior to my ban I had already planned on purchasing this Alannah Hill duffle coat for Winter. I finally tried it on this weekend and was disappointed by the length and so the Gorman coat is the one and only exception of my ban. THAT'S IT, no more until Europe!)

Eskimo, no?

Outfit of the Day 7/5/11

So I just came home from a late session at the movies where we watched "Source Code", starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Vera Farmiga and Michelle Monaghan. There are two pretty awesome things about Source Code: 1. Jake Gyllenhaal; and 2. It was the kind of science-fiction movie that we non-science-fiction types could understand. (Although I still struggle with the whole alternate reality thing, but I'm not going to get into that here.) I've had a soft spot for Jake since his Donnie Darko days and have always enjoyed his movies, from Brokeback Montain to lame-o Prince of Persia, to his butt-baring Love and Other Drugs. I think he makes a really great "good guy" - the kind of guy you'd like to take home to your parents. Mmmm...

Alannah Hill "My Bloody Valentine" Jacket
Friends of Couture cardigan
Stella pleated leather skirt
Coocachoo thigh-high socks
Nine West patent bow flats

YSL ring
Lipstick: Nars "Schiap"

I've had this Friends of Couture cardigan back when it only costed $60 to buy it. I have to say that the prices of Friends of Couture clothes have increased sooooo quickly that the next time I picked up a cardi, it was $130! While I still love the occasional piece from there (and the buttons stay on much longer than my AH cardis), given the current prices, I always think to myself  "another $50 and I can get an AH one!" Mind you, the AH prices have also definitely crept up too... but much more stealthily than FOC!

Outfit of the Day 2/5/11

So I spent most of today lying down because I've somehow managed to injure my back on the weekend without actually exercising. Hmmm. Nonetheless, I still had to drop off and pick up the bf before and after he finished work and so I couldn't spend the whole day in my nightie, as much as I desperately wanted to. As I was having a bit of an off day, I felt I needed to wear something pretty, like this cardigan!

Alannah Hill "No, No, No! No! No!" cardigan
Alannah Hill "The madness within" skirt
Alannah Hill heart print thigh-highs
Siren pumps

While a bit on the pricey side, I absolutely adore this cardigan. It is girly and shiny - I LOVES! When I read the name of this cardi out at the store, I told my friend and the sales assistant that it was more like a "Yes, Yes, Yes! Yes! Yes!" kinda cardi. Haha an AH joke, I'm a bit of a loser like that.

Pretty love hearts - goes with my skirt!

Outfit of the Day 1/5/11

Today I popped out to Borders with the bf and one of my besties to do some studying and also some "study break" wandering around the shops. I was extremely proud of myself - I didn't buy anything! I think it's a good start to my shopping ban! Unfortunately, it's only the 1st of May and so I've got another 2 months to go! This is DEFINITELY going to be interesting...

On a related topic, I was doing some "research" the other day and realised there's a name for my condition, it's called "Oniomania". According to, Oniomania is "the technical term for the compulsive desire to shop, more commonly referred to as compulsive shopping, shopping addiction, shopaholism, compulsive buying or CB." This reminded me of a book that I read about 6 months ago by Avis Cardella called "Spent: Memoirs of a shopping addict". The author's experience made me realise that while my shopping habit was nowhere near as extreme as her's at her worst, that may very well be me in a matter of years! (minus the rich boyfriends, I think.)

And so I've decided to make a conscious effort to be less of a consumer and start recycling what I already have, which is plenty. A permanent shopping ban is just too unrealistic, and so after I return from my Euro-trip (with plenty of goodies to last for years to come), I will work out a plan so that I will shop in moderation. Moderation is good.
